Underage foreign artists

The employment of minors under the age of 16 is regulated in France.
The hiring of minor artists under the age of 16 is therefore contingent on obtaining an authorization. This prior authorization must be requested from the departmental commission for child employment, represented either by the DDASS1 or the Direccte2, depending on the departement.
Independently from the request for a work permit (see the file Foreign artists- Residence and work permits ) ; employers of underage foreign artists must request this prior employment authorization from the departmental commission for child employment.
This request must be made by the employer of the artist under 16, both in the case of companies based in France and companies based in foreign countries. This request for a child employment permit is addressed to commission of the departement where the employer is a resident. If the employer lives in a foreign country the request is filed in all cases at the prefecture of Paris (see the file Foreign artists working in France under a sales contract signed with an entertainment promoter based in a foreign country and the file Entertainment promoters based in foreign countries – Authorization to operate in France, formalities ).
Procedures for requesting work permits and for requesting child employment authorization may be undertaken concomitantly ; however, employers are advised to first request the authorization for child employment.
In all cases, the waiting period for these two procedures must be taken into account.
